At Get R Gone Junk Removal, we are deeply committed to eco-friendly practices that prioritize recycling and repurposing. As a small business, we collaborate closely with local donation center’s and recycling facilities in London and St. Thomas to ensure that about 75% of what we collect is diverted from landfills. We are very proud of our recycling practices, and wanted to share some more information about how we are working for a greener tomorrow in our community.
Practices for Recycling Junk
In our experience in the industry and speaking with our clients, we have identified that there is a significant lack of information and misunderstanding in regard to recycling and donation practices in the junk removal industry. While we can’t necessarily speak for other competitors, these are a few of the primary areas of recycling and donation we strictly adhere to.
We recycle materials such as:
– Wood: Recycled into mulch/wood chips or other wood bi-product materials. Virtually all wood and wood products are recycled into mulch and wood chips through our recycling partner Green Valley Recycling in London Ontario. We chose to work
with Green Valley because of their dedication to sorting recyclable materials, on-site upcycling and efficiency.
– Metal: Sent to local scrap metal yards. There are many different types of metal that we recycle, including ferrous and non ferrous metals. There is actually quite a lot of sorting that goes in to metal recycling, and Get R Gone is committed to ensuring these materials continue their lifecycle through recycling.
– Plastic & Cardboard: Processed at Green Valley Recycling and other local recycling facilities.
– Concrete & Shingles: Reused in construction or repurposed for road building. Asphalt and concrete based materials are processed and repurposed into usable material right in the yard of our local recycling partner Green Valley Recycling. These materials can then be purchased by the public in the form of recycled asphalt, gravel, wood chips, mulch and more. More information on Green Valley’s landscaping products can be found here.
Additionally, we have comprehensive electronics recycling protocols, ensuring old TVs, computers, and appliances are handled and recycled responsibly. E-Waste is a growing problem and recycling efforts need to increase to address the rising amount of E-Waste generated in our communities. Here are some concerning facts about E-Waste Recycling:
- E-waste comprises 70% of our overall toxic waste.
- Only 12.5% of E-Waste is recycled.
- 85% of our E-Waste are sent to landfills and incinerators are mostly burned, and release harmful toxins in the air!
- Electronics contain lead which can damage our central nervous system and kidneys.
Supporting Local Charities
Get R Gone follows a donate and reuse first policy, this means we will first try to donate and give second life to your used items before resorting to recycling if we can. We proudly donate reusable items to charities like Mission Thrift Store and Habitat for Humanity in London and St. Thomas, helping local families access affordable quality goods, as well as supporting other charity initiatives. For example, the sale of goods at Habitat for Humanity re-stores goes toward funding and building affordable housing in our local community.
A Cleaner Tomorrow
Our mission at Get R Gone is to create a cleaner, greener tomorrow. By partnering with local organizations and focusing on sustainability, we’re doing our part to minimize environmental impact while giving back to our community. Whether it’s donating furniture or responsibly recycling scrap, we’re driven by our goal of making a positive difference.
